HOW’S YOUR HEART?

BY MYRA F. SMITH

Bible Verse: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength.”  (Deuteronomy 6:5)

Not long after Christmas, I was perusing the stores and shocked to see the Christmas items pushed to one side.  It had only been a week or two since Christmas, but hearts of all shapes, sizes, colors and tastes, were everywhere.  And, that brings me to this question:  How’s your heart?

Don’t worry. This quiz won’t require your LDL or HDL numbers, BMI or number of sit-up’s you can perform before dialing 911. This month, maybe it’s time we examine the condition of our spiritual hearts.  Now, for only one, all-important question:  What does God say about maintaining a healthy, spiritual heart?

  1. 1.    “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength.”  (Deuteronomy 6:5)
  2. 2.    “And he has given us this command:  Whoever loves God must also love his brother.”  (1 John 4:21)
  3. 3.    “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.”  (Matthew 10: 37-38)
  4. 4.    “Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”  (I Corinthians 13: 4-5)

What does God say about a healthy heart?  A LOT. LOVE GOD ABOVE ALL ELSE; LOVE YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS; FOLLOW GOD, EVEN IF IT MEANS CARRYING A CROSS,  AND KEEP YOUR HEART SPIRITUALLY PURE.

HAPPY HEART DAY FROM THE ONE WHO LOVED US ENOUGH TO SEND US HIS VERY BEST, HIS SON, WHO DIED ON THE CROSS FOR OUR SINS.
